June 4th

Adding to their already incredible string of success, The Monkees win Emmy Awards for "Outstanding Comedy Series" for NBC's "The Monkees" as well as the Outstanding Directorial Achievement In Comedy Award (given to Director James Frawley) for the "Royal Flush" episode.

Other winning awards that night went to Best Actor in a Drama, Bill Cosby, for his role on "I Spy" (no word on whether drinks ... or Jello ... were exchanged afterwards), Best Actress in a Drama, Barbara Bain ("Mission Impossible"), Best Actress in a Comedy, Lucille Ball ("The Lucy Show"), Best Actor in a Comedy, Don Adams ("Get Smart") and Best Drama Series "Mission: Impossible".

Incredibly, in the era of "The Ed Sullivan Show" and "The Hollywood Palace", it was "The Andy Williams Show" that won top honors for Best Variety Series.

And, speaking of The Ed Sullivan Show, The Young Rascals perform "A Girl Like You" and "Groovin'" on this evening's program.
