June 4th, 1964

60 YEARS AGO TODAY:

6/4/64 - The Beatles begin their first (and only) World Tour, performing two ten-song shows at the 4,400 seat KB Halle in Copenhagen, Denmark

British drummer Jimmy Nicol replaces Ringo Starr (who is in the hospital, recovering from tonsillitis after collapsing the previous day.)  Incredibly, he won't actually have his tonsillectomy until December!)

Nichols fills in for the first five dates (10 concerts + a Dutch TV appearance)

Also on 6/4, LA Dodgers Pitcher Sandy Koufax (did we mention that he’s having an incredible year?!?!) tosses his third career no-hitter, beating The Philadelphia Phillies, 3-0 in Philadelphia
