HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JIM PETERIK!

Today's presentation is a Clark / Kent Production!!!

From Clark Besch ... and ALL of us here at Forgotten Hits ...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JIMBO!!!  (kk)

After a Grammy, numerous gold records and a lifetime of songwriting and entertaining, JIM PETERIK OF THE IDES OF MARCH TURNS 74 TODAY!!!

58 Years ago these two pages appeared on consecutive pages side by side in Cash Box Magazine on July 4th Holiday, 1966!

Kinda cool, right?  Look closer at this clever ad on the right, pushing several London/Parrot 45s ...

You see the ad on right page POINTING from the Ides photo over to the
previous page and #68 on the Cash Box Top 100 chart --
"You Wouldn't Listen"!!!

I wonder how much they had to pay to have this ad across from the pull out Top 100 chart to show readers they had a HIT on their hands?  Cool idea!

And there's 16 year old Jimbo and the rest of the BERWYN Ides, who are still rockin' 58 years later with the same great guys!

All we can say to that is
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIM!
and ...

ROCK ON!!

Clark also sent us this vintage newspaper article from The Berwyn Life, circa 1966, touting The Ides' newfound success ...

(I'm not so sure they were ever REALLY considered as a possible opening act for The Beatles or The Stones ... although they DID eventually share the bill with Led Zeppelin!!! But a great piece of PR nonetheless!)

And I DO kind of remember Jim telling me several years ago that The Ides were supposed to do an album for Parrot Records ... but after their next few follow-up singles to "You Wouldn't Listen" failed to take off, the album project was scrapped and they were dropped from the label.

The shame is there remains a GREAT undiscovered Ides Of March gem that I have ALWAYS felt deserved to be a big hit ... and I think it WOULD have been, had it been released and promoted properly.

Give a listen to "My Foolish Pride" from The Ides Of March, circa 1967.

I LOVE IT! kk

And, of course, you can't properly do a Clark / Kent Production without featuring THIS one by The Ides ... #48, 1970, trying to cash in on that "Vehicle" sound that drove them up to the top of the charts a few months earlier!  (kk)
