The Sunday Comments ( 10 -24 - 20 )

One Birthday … makes you older …

Grace Slick turns 81 next Friday, October 30th!

Mike Wolstein

LOL … I like it!  (kk)

Have you seen the new Hummer commercial that features Led Zeppelin’s “The Immigrant Song?”  VERY unusual to see the band going this route … but let’s face it, many of these commercials have been VERY lucrative for the artists who, at one time, would have NEVER considered “commercializing” their work.

And there have been OTHER benefits, too.

Once some of these old songs are discovered by a new audience, they start downloading and streaming like crazy.  (Witness Fleetwood Mac’s sudden resurgence with “Dreams” and their “Rumours” album.)

It’ll be interesting to see if this Led Zeppelin track follows suit.  (Of course WE all know that the opening riff was borrowed from The Osmond’s “Hold Her Tight” track, right?!?!)

Boy, I sure don’t agree with the selections in THIS list!!!

https://bestclassicbands.com/lost-british-invasion-hits-of-the-60s-6-2-200/

Some of these tracks remain the backbone of British Invasion Royalty!

Of course, there are others we’ve never even heard of … and for good reason …

But that hardly makes them worthy of this particular list!  (kk)

It was The Beatles, of course, who launched The British Invasion here in this country …

And on Friday I was fortunate enough to catch a very special edition of “Eight Songs A Week” on The Beatle Channel on Sirius / XM where they counted down (based on fan votes) The Top Eleven Favorites from the “Abbey Road” album.  (They counted the entire Side Two medley as one track … which I figured for SURE would come in at #1 … but in reality, it came in second to George Harrison’s “Here Comes The Sun!!!”  (So much for the whole Lennon-McCartney domination thing again … George had the #1 AND the #3 song! (“Something”)

My PERSONAL favorite track on “Abbey Road” has always been “Oh! Darling,” which came in at #5.  “Come Together” was just ahead of it at #4.

The complete list reads as follows:

#11 - Her Majesty

#10 - Maxwell's Silver Hammer

#   9 - Octopus's Garden

#   8 - I Want You (She's So Heavey)

#   7 - Because

#   6 - You Never Give Me Your Money

#   5 - Oh! Darling

#   4 - Come Together

#   3 - Something

#   2 - The Abbey Road Side Two Medley

#   1 - Here Comes The Sun

I would have definitely ranked “Octopus’s Garden” higher … and listed “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” and “Because” as the two weakest tracks.  (kk)

And, speaking of The Beatles, Charles Rosenay has posted a 30-minute video of highlights from his recent John Lennon 80th Birthday Celebration on YouTube.

As further proof of just how fucked up our way of thinking has become in these MeToo times, I actually saw an article this week about the Davy Jones episode of “The Brady Bunch” as “not aging well” because 16 year old Marcia Brady gave 26 year old Davy Jones a a thank you kiss on the cheek.  Are you frickin’ KIDDING me?!?!

In the history of the world, that would be the ultimate dream of ANY pop star’s fan!!!  There was absolutely NOTHING romantic or inappropriate about it.

I’m telling you, our minds have gone … we’ve lost our sense of humor and can no longer appreciate even the most INNOCENT gesture.  What on earth has happened to us.

Pick your battles, America … trust me, we’ve got FAR bigger issues on our plates right now than this one!!!  (OMG!!!)  kk

Here’s our Video Clip of the Week …

Which begs the question …

Who Are You???  (kk)

Meanwhile ...
