While American Artists are once again dominating The Top Ten (The Supremes, #1, with "Where Did Our Love Go," Dean Martin, #2, with "Everybody Loves Somebody," The Drifters, #5, with "Under The Boardwalk," Bobby Freeman, #6, with "C'Mon And Swim," newcomers The Newbeats (sounding an awful lot like a combination of The Four Seasons and their alter-ego, The Wonder Who) at #8 with "Bread And Butter," a VERY hot hit, up 17 places from last week's #25 showing and The Ventures at #9 with their remake, "Walk Don't Run, 1964," British Acts continue to hold their own ...
"The House Of The Rising Sun" by The Animals is up two places to #3, "A Hard Day's Night" by The Beatles is down one spot to #4, The Dave Clark Five hold steady at #7 with "Because" and Dusty Springfield is still holding on at #10 with "Wishin' And Hopin'."
Carrying on our recap of The British Invasion, you'll also find British pop acts at #11 this week, "How Do You Do It" by Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Beatles at #'s 14, 17, 26 and 68 with, respectively, "And I Love Her," "Ain't She Sweet," "I'll Cry Instead" and "If I Fell," giving The Fab Four a total of FIVE Top 100 Hits this week ... plus George Martin's instrumental of "Ringo's Theme," holding on at #56.
Meanwhile, The Rolling Stones hold down TWO of The Top 40 spots with "It's All Over Now" (#31, up six places) and "Tell Me," #35 ... Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas ALSO have TWO Top 100 entries ... "I'll Keep You Satisfied" holds steady at #42 while their version of yet ANOTHER Lennon and McCartney tune, "From A Window," debuts at #94.
Rounding out the list, "Some Day We're Gonna Love Again" sits at #65 for The Searchers, "Someone, Someone" premiers at #90 for Brian Poole and the Tremeloes ... these are the guys who beat The Beatles to a Decca recording contract a couple of years ago, FINALLY making some headway on the American charts ... and "I Believe" by The Bachelors, still hanging in there at #96.
Meanwhile, it looks like Chad Stuart and Jeremy Clyde have another hit on their hands ...
Their latest, "A Summer Song," jumps from #100 to #77, a move of 23 places!
(They would also record a version of "From A Window" ... but it just couldn't compete with Billy J. Kramer's version.)
