THE SUPER CHART

Gary Lewis and the Playboys slide into the #1 position with their first chart hit as "This Diamond Ring" replaces "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" at the top of the charts after The Righteous Brothers' three week run.

"My Girl" by The Temptations, "I Go To Pieces" by Peter and Gordon, "The Jolly Green Giant" by The Kingsmen, "The Boy From New York City" by The Ad Libs and "King Of The Road" by Roger Miller all earn bullets in this week's Top Ten, denoting SIX mega-hits on this week's chart.

The Beatles jump 40 places (from #51 to #11) with "Eight Days A Week" ... guess there's really no secret where this record is headed!  And you'll find THREE versions of "Red Roses For A Blue Lady" on this week's chart ...

Right now Bert Kaempfert's instrumental holds the lead at #19, up five places from the week before, while Vic Dana's vocal version jumps thirteen spots from #59 to #46 ... definitely Top 40 hit-bound.

And, bringing up the rear is Wayne Newton's take, which premiers this week at #84.  All three versions would also chart here in Chicago.

Shirley Bassey's "Goldfinger" climbs 16 spots to #24, while Jr. Walker and the All-Stars jump 25 places to #35.  Right behind them are Motown labelmates, The Supremes, whose "Stop! In The Name Of Love" jumps from #71 to #36, a move of 35 spots!

As for our British Rock artists, they're well represented again on this week's chart ...

Petula Clark, Peter and Gordon, The Beatles, The Zombies, The Kinks, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Shirley Bassey, The Searchers (twice), Adam Faith, Herman's Hermits, The Dave Clark Five and The Bachelors all have Top 40 hits ... that's a full third of the countdown.

And coming up outside The Top 40, we find Georgie Fame, The Animals, Chad and Jeremy, Manfred Mann, Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas, The Beatles and The Moody Blues, allowing The Brits to maintain a 20% hold on the American music market.
