June 14th, 1965 ... and THE SATURDAY SURVEY

The Four Tops earn their first #1 Hit as "I Can't Help Myself" (without question, one of the catchiest songs on the radio today) vaults to #1 from last week's #4 position .

The Byrds and The Yardbirds continue their flight into The Top Ten as "Mr. Tambourine Man" soars to #3 ... and "For Your Love" is now perched at #9.

Patti Page has her biggest hit in seven years as "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte" now sits just outside The Top Ten at #11.  Meanwhile, Johnny Rivers continues his climb up the chart, moving from #72 to #50 to #22 this week with "Seventh Son."

And how about The Rolling Stones???  They vault 55 POINTS from #79 to #24 with "Satisfaction."  (I don't know about you, but I smell a hit!!!)

Also making significant moves are "Cara Mia" by Jay and the Americans (up 27 places from #65 to #37) and "A World Of Our Own" by The Seekers, up 22 spots from #64 to #42, no doubt helped by their appearance earlier this week on "The Ed Sullivan Show."

Down at #65, we find The Kinks up 28 spots with "Set Me Free" in their second week on the chart ...

While this week's highest chart debut belongs to Elvis Presley, with one of MY personal favorites, "(Such An) Easy Question."  It premiers at #77.

60 YEARS AGO TODAY:

6/14/65 – “I Got You Babe” by Sonny and Cher is released

Also on 6/14, “Beatles VI” is released … another US-only LP composed of leftover tracks that Capitol Records had removed from previous releases … other than “Bad Boy” … this track wouldn’t first appear on a British LP until “A Collection Of Beatles Oldies” was released many years later

Also on 6/14, Cincinnati Reds pitcher Jim Maloney no-hits New York Mets … but loses in 11 innings, 1-0.

Maloney allowed no hits thru the first ten innings of the game, striking out 18 Mets along the way ...

But a home run in the 11th sealed his fate and The Reds came up on the losing end, 1-0.

Incredibly, he will No Hit The Chicago Cubs two months later ...

A game that ALSO went extra innings!!!

Only this time, the no hitter would stand as The Reds went on to win the game by a final score of 1-0!
