Despite only hitting #1 in Record World, "Wooly Bully" tops our Super Chart this week due to the accumulated points it earned in all three trades, pushing it ahead of this week's #2 ranked record, "Back In My Arms Again" by The Supremes ... and last week's #1 tune, "Help Me Rhonda" by The Beach Boys. (Despite never officially hitting #1 in Billboard, they will name it the Biggest Record Of The Year on their Year-End Chart, ahead of other monster 1965 classics like "Satisfaction," "Downtown," "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" and "Yesterday.")
The Four Tops sit at #4 (with a bullet) with "I Can't Help Myself," up four spots this week ... while "Mr. Tambourine Man" by The Byrds also seems destined for the top as it leaps from#16 to #6.
You won't find another bulleted hit until you reach #12, where Herman's Hermits climb thirteen spots with their remake of the Sam Cooke hit, "Wonderful World." "For Your Love" is up sixteen spots for The Yardbirds, now vaulting to #14, while Gene Pitney, Patti Page, Horst Jankowski and The Guess Who also see significant moves as "Last Chance To Turn Around," "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte, "A Walk In The Black Forest" and "Shakin' All Over" climb from 26 to 15, 32 to 18, 36 to 22 and 38 to 25 respectively.
This week's top debut belongs to The Rolling Stones as "Satisfaction" premiers at #79. We've been tracking its progression since the very first recording session held here in Chicago ... and will continue to do so until it reaches the #1 spot on the chart a few weeks from now.
INSIDE THE CHARTS:
A total of six different songs occupied the top five positions on this week's national charts back in 1965.
Using even the simplest math (and I can assure you that Randy Price's formula is far more complicated than that as every chart position is weighted), "Wooly Bully" comes out on top this week despite topping only the Record World Chart nationally.
Assigning 5 points to #1, 4 points to #2, 3 points to #3, etc., here's how it all shakes out for the week ending June 12th, 1965:
BILLBOARD:
#1 - Back In My Arms Again (5 pts)
#2 - Wooly Bully (4 pts)
#3 - Crying In The Chapel (3 pts)
#4 - I Can't Help Myself (2 pts)

And it's really that simple ...
Well, not REALLY ...
Again, Randy uses a FAR more sophisticated method than this when calculating the weekly Super Charts displayed here every week in Forgotten Hits ...
But for the purposes of this exercise, the math works!
