This Week in 1970

June 7th – The Who become the first act to perform rock music (their rock opera “Tommy”) at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York.

June 9th – Bob Dylan is awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Music by Princeton University.

“Although he is now approaching the perilous age of thirty, his music remains the authentic expression of the disturbed and concerned conscience of young America.”

Dylan later said that his experience at Princeton would go on to inspire his song "Day Of The Locusts."
