Me, I'm going back to Massachusetts ...
To look at THEIR Top 40 Chart for the week covering January 17th, 1972 ...
Wow, what a COOL chart!!!
So "American Pie" tops their album chart ...
But isn't listed at all on their singles chart ...
Which is REALLY odd in that this song by the third week of January was #1 all over the country.
Instead, we get "Without You" by Nilsson, already in at least its second week on top, which was just starting to climb our two previous weeks' charts.
And check out some of those big moves within the ranks ...
"Drowning In The Sea Of Love" by Joe Simon is up from #10 to #4 this week ... that's a MEGA move within ANY Top Ten!
And Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" jumps seven places from #15 to #8.
Meanwhile, The Carpenters are up fourteen spots with their latest, "Hurting Each Other," which climbs from #26 all the way up to #12.
Interesting, too, that Paul McCartney and Wings are shown at #19 with a song that was never released as a single here in The States with their reggae version of "Love Is Strange." ("Wings Wild Life" also sits at #9 on WRKO's album chart.)
Boston's got some different "local hits" represented here, too ... "Lonesome Mary" by Chilliwack, which never rose above #75 on the national charts, "Get Out Of Bed" by Livingston Taylor (which falls out of The Top Ten this week from #8 to #18) ... that one peaked at #97 in Billboard ... and "Move 'em Out" by Delaney and Bonnie ... #21 in Boston on its third week on the chart ... but only a #59 hit in Billboard ... and not even appearing there until a full week later.
