1972 Surveys: May 23rd - TEXAS

That Li'l Ol' Band From Texas has the #15 song this week on the KILT Survey with "Francene."  The band hailed from Houston, Texas ... which is also where KILT was based ... so while this may have first started out as a "local hit," it would become their first national hit as well, charting at #69.  It would be two more years before "La Grange" blasted them off into worldwide recognition.

We've got a few big jumpers on this week's chart ... take a look at "Troglodyte" by The Jimmy Castor Bunch ... it's up SIXTEEN places from #36 to #20!  "Last Night, I Didn't Get To Sleep At All" by The Fifth Dimension moves up eleven spots (from #24 to #13) while J.J. Cale's version of "After Midnight" (he's the guy that wrote it) climbs from #37 to #24, a move of thirteen places.

"Taxi" by Harry Chapin makes an impressive showing at #5 (it peaked at #20 nationally) ... and it's kinda cool to see The Raiders at #17 with "Powder Blue Mercedes Queen," a song that only reached #54 on The Billboard Hot 100 Pop Singles Chart.

The Hit Bound Pick belongs to Bob Seger and his version of "If I Were A Carpenter," another song that had a weak national showing, peaking at #76.
