Roy Orbison holds on to the #1 spot for another week with "Oh, Pretty Woman" ... but Manfred Mann is right behind him, poised to take over, with their first US hit, "Do Wah Diddy Diddy," up from #5 to #2 in its fifth week on the chart.
There is only one other British Hit in The Top Ten this week ... and that would be The Animals with their former #1 Record, "House Of The Rising Sun," which slips to #7 in its ninth week on the chart.
The Ringo Starr-sung "Matchbox" keep The Beatles moving up the chart ... it climbs from #23 to #19 this week while its flip side, "Slow Down," is nine spots below it at #28. (The Beatles also have this week's #33 hit with "A Hard Day's Night." It falls 14 spots in its 13th week on the chart.)
A British Group we haven't had a chance to explore before debuts at #94. This is our first introduction to The Kinks, who premier with their first US chart hit, "You Really Got Me" ... it will go on to become a Classic Rock Classic over the next sixty years.
Other British hits on the chart include "A Summer Song" by Chad and Jeremy (#17), "From A Window" by Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas (#29), which comes in just ahead of The Dave Clark Five's "Because," this week's #30 song.
The Nashville Teens jump 13 places with their first US Hit, "Tobacco Road" (#47 to #34.) "Have I The Right" by The Honeycombs climbs from #60 to #43 and "Some Day We're Gonna Love Again" by The Searchers (#58), "I Like It" by Gerry and the Pacemakers (#59), Dusty Springfield, #63, with "All Cried Out" help to keep The British Invasion alive and well.
"I'm Crying" by The Animals is new on the charts this week at #79, as is "Everybody Knows" by The Dave Clark Five, premiering right behind it at #80.
The Bachelors continue to inch their way up the chart with their latest, "I Wouldn't Change You For The World," while "How Do You Do It" by Gerry and the Pacemakers falls to #91. Meanwhile, Peter and Gordon have another Lennon-McCartney tune debuting this week ... this one's called "I Don't Want To See You Again" ... and it debuts at #98.
And check out the new premier at #69 by The Supremes ... it's called "Baby Love" ... and I like this record even more than I liked their #1 Hit "Where Did Our Love Go!" (Watch for "Baby Love" to ALSO top the charts in a few weeks!!!)
