More Of Your Mid-Week Comments

PR-pasha David Salidor, who worked for the Moody Blues’ London Records in the ‘80s. remembers John Lodge:

The whole group was just terrific and generous. They always laughingly called themselves The Muddy Boots, but the relationship with them and the label was terrific, and certainly with their own Threshold Records. Lodge and drummer Graeme Edge were always just perfect gentlemen. Tremendous loss for sure.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but this leaves Justin Hayward as the only surviving Moody.  Sad.  (kk)

From Micky Dolenz in Hawaii …

So great to see my friend Chip Douglas last night here in Honolulu, where he joined us for “Daydream Believer.” He not only produced Headquarters, but Pisces, Aquarius Capricorn, and Jones LTD.

And, the long-awaited Super Deluxe 4-CD version of “Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn and Jones Ltd.” has just been released!  Can’t wait to get my copy.

This completes the collectors’ edition sets.  The only one I’m missing is the 3-CD version of The Monkees’ first album (which also includes the David Jones album from a few years before along with several Michael Nesmith / Michael Blessing tracks.)  Anybody know where I can find a copy?  I’ve exhausted all of the usual sources and there’s none to be found.  (All of these are very limited, numbered releases … and this one came out back in 2014.)  Since I already had the 2-CD Deluxe version … as well as the David Jones / Michael Blessing recordings on other CD’s, I didn’t bother with it at the time … but now that I’ve purchased all the others, the completist in me just can’t let this one go!)  If anybody knows where I might find a copy, I sure would love to hear from you!  (kk)

Been catching up on some of Sam Tallerico’s “Lost And Found Oldies Shows” (LAFOS) … ALWAYS filled some great music with lots of surprises.  (He's been spotlighting 1965 again for the past couple of shows.)  Along the way, he turned me on to a bubbling under hit by Skeeter Davis … I had never heard this song before … and it shouldabeen a hit!

You can always listen here:  https://www.mixcloud.com/LAFOS/ … this way you’ll never miss a show!  (kk)

Hiya Kent!

Always great to hear from someone who REALLY digs the music of the time period!

"Sun Glasses" was by Skeeter Davis, which I have on her "Pop Hits" compilation, and the 45 was "Looking Ahead" in Cash Box in September of 1965.

I think I read recently that FH got its highest # of views ever? Or at least in a long while? Not surprised, but congrats anyway. You know I'm one of those pairs of eyes. BTW, Shelly's Dolenz review made me want to see Micky if he ever comes round.

Thanks for checking in. Your timing is perfect because I just posted another 1965 LAFOS!

Sammy

“Sun Glasses” bubbled under in all three major trades, hitting #120 in Billboard and #123 in both Cash Box and Record World in September of 1965.  (kk)

And, by the way, Sam, you can’t go wrong at a Micky Dolenz show … every one’s a gem.  (kk)

The Eagles have added four more dates at The Sphere … February 20, 21, 27 and 28 (kk)

The brand new King Records documentary is already on youtube (below) and worth seeing, I think!

I started watching this the other day but then we had to run out and I never got back to it.  It looks pretty interesting and entertaining … thanks for the reminder!  (kk)

Remembering John Denver, December 31,1943 - October 12, 1997. The great Gene Vincent passed away on October 12, 1971. Got to know and record with him.

Jim also sent us another one of those internal network memos to share, this time an NBC Memo from 1965 …

The Video Beat keeps rolling out these great collectors’ sets of vintage tv rock and roll performances … complete collections of iconic programs like “Shindig!” and “Hullabaloo” … and now THIS week, they take a trip over to Soul Street and announce 31 complete one hour shows of “Soul!”

https://www.thevideobeat.com/rock-roll-tv/soul-tv-series-set-1970-72.html

SOUL! was a breakthrough in TV programming. Created by and for Black Americans, SOUL!  presented R&B, soul, funk, Latin and jazz  musicians; and also writers, poets, actors, philosophers, and activists. The focus was on celebrating and advancing the black culture.

SOUL! gave a platform to black activists, some of whom were fed up with the white power structure of America and they forcefully let their views be known.

Highly Recommended!

By purchasing SOUL! as a 31 episode set in this newsletter, you will *automatically* save 30% versus purchasing single volumes one at a time. So, get the set, and open your eyes, ears and mind to the American black experience of 1970-1973.

31 COMPLETE, ONE-HOUR EPISODES OF SOUL!  Purchasing as a 16 DVD disc set.

Here's why SOUL! is so important:

Artists on SOUL! *performed live* which  resulted in different versions of hit songs and performances that are unique to SOUL!  Also, the artists knew they were in front of their black brothers and sisters and really delivered the goods!

The viewpoints of some guests on
SOUL! were presented with no veneer or political correctness. Hearing blacks talk about early 1970s America as an unwelcoming and unfair country is powerful, sad and eye-opening.

By purchasing SOUL! as a 31 episode set in this newsletter, you will save 30% versus purchasing single volumes one at a time. So, pull the trigger, buy the set, and open your eyes, ears and mind to the black experience of 1970-1973.

AND A BRAND NEW CONCERT REVIEW!!!

This just in from Shelley who, despite having already written something like 500 Peter Noone / Herman’s Hermits concert reviews, STILL finds a way to make it interesting!!! (kk)

Wednesday evening October 8, 2025, at The Ridgefield Theatre in CT, I am here to see Herman's Hermits starring Peter Noone. I love this theatre! It looks hidden and unobtrusive, but inside is dynamic, modern and performer oriented. Of course, without an audience there is no theatre, but they are a very caring staff in that the performers get whatever time they need to use the stage and be ready before the audience enters. They shorten the seating time to a half hour so there is time to eat, drink and go sit down without having an empty theatre slowly fill in.

Herman’s Hermits Starring Peter Noone is the full show tonight. This means we will get some of the songs that we do not always get to hear. Let's get started.

1. I'm Into Something Good

2. Wonderful World

3. Love Potion #9 - courtesy of Japan, who thought Herman’s Hermits was the group who recorded the song

4. Ring of Fire - courtesy of Johnny Cash and his blond non-identical twin, Peter Noone

Some people come in late and sit in the front. Poor them! You should know better!

Peter - "Hey, you're just coming in? Where did you come from?"

Man hesitant to answer, but finally ... "New Jersey"

Peter - "New Jersey? I came from England and I still beat you!"

5. Dandy - Peter is standing in front of the stage and grabs the mic stand off the stage to put next to him. This gives an incredible view of Peter and his full band on the stage, including Dave Ferrara, drummer on fire, who is blocked much of the time. (Nobody's fault. I do not think he wants to be suspended mid-air in order to be within view)

6. A Must to Avoid - fantastic seeing full view of all performers

A father and small boy come in and sit down (probably emerging from the bathroom)

Peter - "Hi! You may be the youngest person here tonight. What's your name?"

Father answers - His name is HENRY!

WOW! Henry, you are in the right place at the right time. He is gifted with a T-shirt (small) and a cd. Parents -- Take your children to concerts where the performers sing your child's name.

7. Leanin' on the Lamp Post

8. Jezebel - GO Billy Sullivan! This was a new guitar riff to me. This song is not always heard in concert and Billy sure made it special.

9. Daydream Believer - I love this song, and I also love that so many artists perform it; many in tribute to Davy Jones.

10. Sea Cruise - Rich Spina playing keyboards with two hands and one foot. This is also a sometimes song, although they seem to be getting it in more frequently.

11. Travelin' Light - I'm at the Ridgefield Playhouse in Ridgefield, CT tonight.

12. End of the World - different from the other upbeat rocker numbers and one of my favorites.

13. Just a Little Bit Better - Vance Brescia is still kicking up a storm and creating a rip tide across the stage.

14. Silhouettes - I have had to explain to the man next to me who all the crazies are with the flags and glowsticks. I can say this because I came unprepared tonight. I told him he was lucky that I did.

15. Listen People

Vance Brescia does the T-shirt throw into the balcony and hits the mark both times. I always wondered if he has ever considered MLB.

16. I'll Never Dance Again - another sad musical story, but the first song Peter sang on stage at a youth club as Pete Novack and the Heartbeats.

17. Start Me Up - Peter's father ... Mick Jagger

18. Can't You Hear My Heartbeat

19. Mrs. Brown (You've Got A Lovely Daughter)

20. I'm Henry VIII, I Am - Sung at poor young Henry to show who wins ... 8 to 1

21. There's a Kind of Hush

The autograph line actually filled up the lobby, which consists of two levels and was curled like a snake to allow all to get in line. I am driving an hour to get home and even though I have taken Thursday morning off, I can see the wait here is about an hour. What a beautiful drive it was that night. Full moon two nights ago, Halloween decorations out in force. FALL is here, along with a few more concerts.
