Tuesday This And That

Petula’s autobiography is a bit costly in its print edition!

I had to look it up myself just to see … $45 for the hard-cover print edition.  Odd that the Kindle version ($15) is available immediately but the hard cover won’t ship until March of next year (nearly six months away!)  Yet it also shows a publication date of October 23rd (last week) ... and even their ad says "Out Now" ... which I guess is true provided you're buying the Kindle version ... so now I'm just a bit confused!  (That’s OK … I probably wouldn’t have bought this one anyway!  Lol)  kk

Yes, Kent, Trump has been bent on things like this since, really, his first campaign.

I wouldn't be surprised if, prior to the next Presidential election in 2028, he convinces Congress to pass legislation requiring that the White House (which is now having a massive ballroom built where one of its wings is now) continue to serve as a residence for him, even as another person might be elected; that future President (presumably his current Vice-President.)

But getting back to Loggins, he basically believes that, as President, he can break every law and every rule, and can never face the consequences. That, apparently, includes the copyright laws that are supposed to protect Loggins.

Charles Rosenay’s name is a common occurrence here in Forgotten Hits. He has tours of Liverpool, authored books on the occult and The Beatles, held Beatles Conventions, video tours and more I have probably left out. We have swerved around each other for over 40 years, being aware of each other's names but never making contact. As some of you know, I will respond to being asked to participate and connect with others, but I never want to intrude.

Last night my daughter, son-in-law and I met Charles and rode The Haunted Trolley, which is a family oriented interactive play occurring on a historic moving trolley at a museum here in Connecticut. Charles and company have picked a theme each year for four years. This year it was an alien invasion. The fact that aliens had invaded NYC, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and East Haven, CT, was received well by the 40 participants at the show we attended. Four shows a night, Friday – Sunday, during the month of October gives a lift to the season and adds another Halloween idea to the many offerings here in CT.

We had fun, pretended we were kids, and enjoyed being together. Nice to finally meet you, Charles. Charles' response to meeting me ... "I tag you a lot." Yes sir, yes sir!

Kent,
The one thing I like about Saturday's SUPER CHARTS is that I like to go over "the next ten" at the right hand bottom. I like to see which of the records would turn out to be "hits" as we know them today. The record that came in at #105 I don't have and never have heard of it. Keep up the good work. Also, liked the posting of the three songs you did today.
Larry Neal
"Il Silenzio" actually charted here in Chicago and I remember hearing it on WLS, our primary Top 40 station at the time, if only because it stuck out as sounding so different than anything that was out or on the chart at the time.  (Here in Chicago, Nini Rosso's record climbed as high as #8 ... it never even made The Hot 100 in Billboard!)
Here's your chance to hear it ... what'doya think?  Did it get your toe to "taps"-ing???  (kk)

The rest of that "Next Ten" has some interesting titles on it ... including the two-sided "hit" "Boys" / "Kansas City," released on the green Capitol Starline label, primarily their "oldies" releases.  Most interesting in that neither of these songs were ever released as a single ... and were already about a year (or, in the case of "Boys," two) out of date.  (The Beatles asked Capitol to pull back the single as it no longer represented the kind of music they were making "NOW" ... so Capitol agreed, making this an almost instant collectible.)

The Animals, Nancy Sinatra, Sonny and Cher (with another super oldie) and Neil Sedaka (with a GREAT, overlooked track) are also represented within these ten spots.

"Boys" ultimately peaked at #73 nationally (but only #102 in Billboard), Sonny and Cher's "The Letter" (not the same tune as Th Box Tops' hit, coming two years later after its original release in 1963 as "Caesar and Cleo!) went to #75 and Neil Sedaka's "The World Thru A Tear" peaked at #76 in Billboard.

Here in Chicago, "Boys" topped out at #18 before Capitol pulled the plug while Sedaka scored a #4 "comeback" hit.  It's a great tune that deserved better.  (kk)

Wasn't it just the coolest thing to see Sandy Koufax in the Dodgers' dugout at The World Series game last night?  One of the all-time greats EVER, Sandy turns 90 years old this year ... what an INCREDIBLE career this man had!  (kk)
