October 31st, 1965 ... and A Special Halloween Report from Chuck Buell

60 YEARS AGO TODAY:

10/31/65 – Wayne Fontana leaves The Mindbenders.  While fronting the band, the group had a #1 Hit with "Game Of Love."

The group will go on to have their second #1 Hit the following year with “A Groovy Kind of Love.”  (Fontana, on the other hand, really isn't ever heard of again!)

Also on 10/31 – Barry McGuire (backed by The Grass Roots) and Allan Sherman appear on “The Ed Sullivan Show”

From Chuck Buell ...

Halloween is Tonight!  I’m your reporter, Chuck Boo-ell!
So, clear the Spider Webs off your best Bobby “Boris” Pickett Imitation and sing along with me to that 1962 Number Forgotten Hit, “The Monster Mash!”

(You'll find "The Mash” below if you need to refresh yourself to get into the “Spirit!”)

I was working these stories late in the night,

When my eyes beheld an eerie sight!

For Halloween night, I had no candy!

I needed some fast to have some handy!

What I saw at the store turned me pale as a ghost!

Candy Prices were historically the most!

(ain't it the truth!!! - kk)

But I grabbed a buggy ‘cuz I had the itch!

Darn if the checkout lady wasn’t really a witch!

And she took my Cash!  My Halloween Cash!

I was the store’s candy buyer’s smash!

Looking around, I heard a “Boo!”

Vlad and Batman were there too!

And standing in line perfecting his walk,

He had it down, I couldn’t squawk!

Watching him move, he looked so fine!

It was that very tall Monster,

Frank N. Stein!

Everyone was having Fun!

The Grocery Store Party had just begun!

But I had to check out and check out fast,

So, without hesitation, I gave them my cash!

My Halloween Cash!  All my cash!

Now for you Tricksters

This Candy is for you!

So, when you get to my Door,

Tell them Boris and Nastasha sent you!

You’ll only get Candy; you won’t get cash.

Because the store took all my cash!

My Halloween Cash!

I was the store’s candy buyer’s smash!

Wa-ooh! I’m all out Cash!

Wa-ooh! My Halloween Cash!
