America's Favorite Summer Song begins its second week at #1. (Over the years, Forgotten Hits has run several polls in order to determine The All-Time Favorite Summer Song ... and "Summer In The City" by John Sebastian and The Lovin' Spoonful has won this honor every single time we've run the poll.)
"Li'l Red Riding Hood" holds on to the #2 position while Bobby Hebb's "Sunny" climbs four places to land at #3. Napoleon XIV and The Rolling Stones round out The Top Five ... both holding on to their Top Five bragging rights from the week before.
Donovan continues his climb, this week moving from #22 to #9 with "Sunshine Superman" ... while The Happenings and Petula Clark both have Top Ten Hits with bullets.
The Supremes make another amazing move, rocketing from #67 to #23 in their second week on the chart. That's a jump of 44 places for "You Can't Hurry Love."
Simon and Garfunkel climb 23 notches with their latest, "The Dangling Conversation." And The Beatles debut at #39 with "Yellow Submarine," their latest single, which comes from their recently released "Revolver" album. (The record's B-Side, "Eleanor Rigby," premiers at #73.)
The Cyrkle follow up their Top Ten Smash, "Red Rubber Ball" (written by Paul Simon, mentioned above) with "Turn-Down Day," which climbs from #76 to #52 this week.
Another B-Side makes an impressive move this week as "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys (the flip of their current #22 Hit "Wouldn't It Be Nice") climbs from #89 to #65, a jump of 24 spots.
Chicago's Cryan' Shames reach #56 with their version of "Sugar And Spice" ... and The Kinks have another summer song of note ... "Sunny Afternoon" now sits at #59, up fifteen notches from the week before.
And speaking of summer songs, the re-release of The Surfaris' 1963 Hit "Wipe Out" is making waves all over again. It moves from #84 to #73 to #61 and looks to be a hit all over again!
And I just HAVE to mention "Mr. Dieingly Sad" by The Critters, one of the prettiest songs on the countdown. This week it moves from #88 to #68 ... and we just LOVE this one!!!
