60 YEARS AGO TODAY:
11/5/66 – The Monkees score their first "official" #1 Hit when “Last Train To Clarksville” tops The Billboard Hot 100 Pop Singles Chart
NOTE: "Clarksville" had already topped both the Cash Box and the Record World charts the week before ...
So on November 5th, it was already in its SECOND week at #1 in both of these publications.
(You'll see that the same holds true on our Super Charts as well)
[SPOILER ALERT: It'll drop a spot on this Saturday's Survey posting]
Meanwhile, here in Chicago, "Last Train To Clarksville" was now in its THIRD week at #1 on the WLS Silver Dollar Survey on November 5th. (Incredibly, it never reached #1 on the WCFL chart)
The Cryan' Shames represent our only local talent on this week's WLS chart ...
But it's a good one!
"I Wanna Meet You" only managed at #62 showing nationally (and peaked even lower in Billboard, where it only reached #85), but here in Chicago it was a Top Ten Hit, peaking at #6 on WLS' Silver Dollar Survey and #9 across the river on The Big 10 Survey issued by new Top 40 rival, WCFL. (kk)
