#22

THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY (this was an “Extra” in 2013)

Had it been released as a single, this one probably could have been a hit. After all, all five of the first Partridge Family singles made The Top 20 … and two of those went all the way to #1 … while a third peaked at #2!

We recently reran a piece on David Cassidy, Teen Idol, that we first published in 2004. Although he came to loathe the character of Keith Partridge and how it forced him to produce bubblegum hits for a pre-teen audience, he embraced it again MANY years later both in concert and by rerecording many of these songs in a more “mature” manner.

“C’mon, Get Happy” was the perfect opening to each episode, all of which provided an excuse for “the family who plays together, stays together” musical moment (even though David and step-mom Shirley Jones were the only ones really singing on the records.)

Last time, the theme to The Partridge Family didn’t even make the list … it was a fan favorite that earned 100 or more votes but still fell short of The Top 50 …

So it’s a very pleasant surprise to see it reach the top half of the countdown this time around!

Of course, it didn't start out that way ...

The opening theme from the first season told a whole different story (and wasn't nearly as polished as the "C'mon, Get Happy" theme we all know and love!)
