GILLIGAN’S ISLAND (#14 in 2013)
Another timeless classic with the most basic premise …
A boat (The SS Minnow) sets sail for a three hour tour … but is knocked off course to a desert island.
(Note that I didn’t say “deserted” island … as over the course of their three year stay, a number of guests and natives also made their way to the island … (including everyone from the rock band The Mosquitos to The Harlem Globetrotters!) …
Yet between Gilligan and The Skipper … and all the knowledge and creativity brought to the table by The Professor … they still couldn’t seem to find their way off the island themselves. (It’s safe to say that a fair amount of that reason may fall on Gilligan himself!)
The focus wasn’t always on Gilligan and The Skipper … a great debate has existed for 56 years now …
Who’s hotter? Ginger or Mary Ann? (Mary Ann wins hands down in my book!)
Also stranded were millionaires Thurston and Lovely Howell.
Several TV movies followed the series … and a parody
combining the Gilligan’s Island theme song and lyrics and Led Zeppelin’s Stairway
To Heaven has been circulating for years now! (We ran it in one of our pre-countdown pages.)
Bob Denver first grabbed our attention on the Dobie Gillis show as beatnik Maynard G. Krebbs. (That theme finished at #141)
The theme to Gilligan’s Island finished at #14 last time …
So this is a nice move up the ladder for 2020!
