10/23/64 - Future undisputed world heavyweight boxing champion Joe Frazier wins an Olympic Heavyweight Gold Medal in Tokyo by beating German Hans Huber
Also on 10/23, several members of the band J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers were injured and their manager, Sonley Roush, was killed when their car collided head-on with a tractor-trailer near Kenton, Ohio. Roush was driving Wilson and his band to Lima, Ohio, for a concert appearance. Ironically, the band’s only hit record, “Last Kiss,” was about a boy whose date was killed in a car accident.

All the focus this past weekend was on The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony held Saturday Night (October 19th) … and it was quite an event …
But Sunday Night (October 20th), The Country Music Hall Of Fame honored their own … with a surprise appearance by Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones!
He was on hand to salute Ricky Nelson / Elvis Presley Guitarist James Burton. Burton carved quite a career, playing for two of early rock’s biggest legends. (He was even featured as part of Ricky Nelson’s band during the musical “tags” that used to end each episode once Ricky became a teen idol rock star!)
James Burton did a fair amount of session work in the ‘60’s, too, appearing on albums by The Beach Boys, The Monkees … and even Buffalo Springfield! (kk)

Thank you for alerting me to the great new Freddy (Boom Boom)
Cannon song. Being born in Norwood, Massachusetts, and Freddy coming from Revere on the north
shore, I always liked his music, even as a kid. Of course, Arnie Ginsburg
had a lot to do with promoting him. He is probably the only first
generation rock and roll artist we have left.
But, you are right!!! Hey Svengoolie by Freddy Cannon really ROCKS!
I must admit that I was dubious that he could possibly sound as good as he sounded back in the sixties but it's true. His voice is amazing, and somehow he continues to have the same sound as he did back in the sixties.
The only thing that might tip someone off that this is a newer record is that the instrumentation is a bit harder than it would have been in the sixties, but this is a GREAT record.
You know from previous posts of mine that generally when I first hear a new song, I think it's OK, but it often has to grow on me before I like it. But the first time I heard this song, I thought, "My God, this is Freddy Cannon at his best," 65 years later.
UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Micky Dolenz played TWO shows this weekend here in the Chicagoland area (The Des Plaines Theatre Saturday Night and The Arcada Theater on Sunday Afternoon)
Unfortunately, we missed him … but our long-time friend Gary Strobl was in from out of town to catch both shows …
And Micky’s PR Guy David Salidor tells us that in addition to the two concerts, Micky also hosted a special fan dinner (to benefit The Make-A-Wish Foundation) called “I’m With The Band.”

Some facts are easy to check, some not so much.
Just so you know, as in this story's case, I do research these "facts" to be as sure as I can be before I write a story. More than one source confirmed that phrase was never spoken and nowhere could I find otherwise. Plus, I did view the episode where the "explaining" lines that seemed to be the basis for that misquoted line were said.
Meanwhile just a few other "questionable" lines ~~~
ET did not say, “E.T. phone home.”
Darth Vader never said “Luke, I am your father.”
And Humprey Bogart never said, “Play it again, Sam."
As always, I AM open to any corrections as about these three.

I can’t believe you managed to track down the lyrics to the extended version of Life Is A Rock (But The Radio Rolled Me) by Reunion, well, really Joey Levine. I have a friend who will be very interested in this.
Also, when I sent the new Freddy Cannon song to another friend of mine, she had never heard of your Forgotten Hits blog, and as into music as she is, I told her to be prepared to spend months, maybe even years catching up on everything she's missed since this blog started.
Of course, there will be a lot of historic concert tours but still, the amount of fascinating information that's been written on this blog is just staggering. I still have to do some catching up myself, because I didn't learn about this blog until sometime in 2018.
I did go back and look at your full year of day by day happenings in 1967 from 2017, but I haven't gone back much further than that. But that's what winter is for! <grin>

A statue honoring John Mellencamp has been erected and unveiled in Bloomington, Indiana, at The University of Indiana. Prominently displayed, one could say (although he’d probably prefer that you didn’t) the revolutionary artist is now permanently stoned for all the world to see.
