October 25th, 1964

60 YEARS AGO TODAY:

10/25/64 – The Rolling Stones make their first appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show.”  They perform a cover of Chuck Berry’s “Around & Around” and their own hit, "Time Is On My Side."  Although Ed Sullivan will comment at the time (after a small riot broke out in the studio) that they will never be invited back, they will, in fact, make several more appearances on Ed’s program (a total of six in all) proving that ratings rule at all times!

Also on 10/25, Jim Marshall of The Minnesota Vikings scooped up a fumble made by The San Francisco 49ers and then ran 66 yards with it the wrong way into the end zone for what he thought was a touchdown.  He had actually run towards his OWN end zone and threw the ball out of bounds in a celebration that, instead of a touchdown and six points for The Vikings, resulted in a safety … and two points for his opponents.  Despite the mistake, The Vikings were able to hang on and win the game by a final score of 27-22.
