April 11th, 1965

60 YEARS AGO TODAY:

4/11/65 – How’d you like to have been at THIS show …

Performing at this evening’s New Musical Express Poll Winners Concert, at London's Wembley Empire Pool, England, were The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Tom Jones, Freddie and the Dreamers, The Animals, The Kinks, Herman's Hermits, The Moody Blues, Them, Cilla Black, The Seekers and Donovan.

I guess Gerry and the Pacemakers couldn’t make it … because …

On 4/11/65, THEY were appearing on “The Ed Sullivan Show” here in The States!

(Soupy Sales also made an appearance on Ed's program that night!)

Also on 4/11, Jack Nicklaus wins his second (of six) Masters titles at the 29th US Masters Tournament, held at Augusta National Golf Club.  He sets a tournament record with a score 271 (−17), beating Gary Player and Arnold Palmer by a record 9 strokes

Also on 4/11, Palm Sunday, 47 tornadoes strike the Midwest, hitting in six states and killing 272 and injuring over 5000 ... 1500 in Indiana alone.

Incredibly, this devastating disaster ranks as only the FOURTH worst tornado outbreak in recorded history.
