60 YEARS AGO TODAY:
5/12/65 – Wilson Pickett records “In The Midnight Hour” with the Stax Records house band, including Steve Cropper, Donald “Duck” Dunn and Al Jackson. Cropper and Pickett wrote the song at The Lorraine Motel in Memphis … the same motel where Doctor Martin Luther King would be assassinated three years later.
Also on 5/12, The Rolling Stones record the final version of “Satisfaction” at RCA Studios in Hollywood. It would be their first #1 American Hit Single.
