60 YEARS AGO TODAY:
9/25/65 – The Beatles Cartoons series begins on ABC-TV. The very first episode has the Fab Four submerged to explore the ocean floor where they encounter a lovesick octopus. They perform “I Want To Hold Your Hand,” which, in this case, equates to eight arms to hold you! (Sorry, I just couldn’t resist!) Too bad they wouldn’t record Ringo’s “Octopus’ Garden” for another four years! (Heck, even “Yellow Submarine” would have worked … but that one was still a year away, too!) And they didn’t even use “You’ve Really Got A Hold On Me” … that one didn’t pop up until Episode 6.
