60 YEARS AGO TODAY:
11/9/65 – Willie Mays is named the National League’s MVP
It is the second time he has been so honored. (He also won the award in 1954 when helped lead The Giants to the NL Pennant, hitting .345 with 41 home runs.)
This past year, Mays hit what would turn out to be a career high 52 homers and batted .317.
The Say-Hey Kid earned MVP votes for EVERY season he played between 1954 and 1966. During his incredible career, he was named to the All-Star Team 24 times.
