The Saturday Survey

The Beatles close the year the same way they began it ... with the #1 Record in America.  ("I Feel Fine" kicked off our look back at 1965 ... and now "We Can Work It Out" closes it!)

"The Sounds Of Silence" edges closer to the top ... it moves up a notch to #3 ... while The Vogues make a five point leap into The Top Ten with "Five O'Clock World."

Herman's Hermits continue to climb ... "A Must To Avoid" now sits at #19 in its third week on the chart, having moved from #96 to #43 to #19.  This one seems to have all the makings of a #1 Hit.

The Rolling Stones leap twenty places with their own version of "As Tears Go By" ... it's the first song that Mick Jagger and Keith Richards ever wrote.

And for a year-end chart, Mike Douglas makes an impressive move ...

"The Men In My Little Girl's Life" climbs from #77 to #49, a move of 29 notches.

And The Beach Boys have the top debut this week with their remake of "Barbara Ann" ... it comes from their brand new "Party" LP and (as we all know now), the lead vocal is being handled by Dean Torrence of Jan and Dean!

60 YEARS AGO TODAY:

12/27/65 – Davy Jones appears on an episode of ABC’s “Ben Casey” … nearly a full year before “The Monkees” debut on NBC.
