May 6th, 1966

60 YEARS AGO TODAY:

5/6/66 – “Paint It, Black” is released as the new Rolling Stones single

"Paint It, Black" ... for whatever reason, the record label insisted on adding the comma to its title ... would go on to top the charts in both The United States and The United Kingdom, albeit with different B-Sides ...

Here in The U.S., the flip side was "Stupid Girl" ... while in the U.K. The Stones went with "Long, Long While."

Much was made of Brian Jones playing the sitar on this track, an instrument The Beatles introduced on the pop scene with "Norwegian Wood" from their "Rubber Soul" album six months earlier.

Also on 5/6, The Philadelphia Phillies (5) and the Pittsburgh Pirates (4) score a combined NINE RUNS in the 11th inning … with The Phillies taking home the win by a final score of 8-7.
