THE FRIDAY FLASH - King-Size Edition

Keith Richards is saying that there will be no tour this year for The Rolling Stones …

But he isn’t ruling out putting something together for 2027.

(Mick has said that he would love to tour behind the new album … but early on the band disclosed scheduling conflicts for 2026.  The focus was going to be on a European tour next, as The Stones haven’t toured Europe since 2022, when they were celebrating their 60th anniversary.)

It’s too bad they couldn’t have all gotten together to perform a couple of songs from the new album on The Tonight Show.  (Would have been a WHOLE lot more interesting and exciting than that incredibly lame exchange between Jagger and Jimmy Fallon!)

But with the new album release still two month away, any appearance right now really won’t help to boost sales for an album you can’t actually listen to yet!

That being said, there is still plenty of excitement and anticipation surrounding their new release, due out July 10th.  This is their “official” 25th studio album … and the new single, “In The Stars,” sounds great … the next natural step from their “Hackney Diamonds” LP.  (kk)

UPDATE:  The Rolling Stones released a brand new video yesterday (5/14) to promote their new single “In The Stars” from the upcoming “Foreign Tongues” LP.

While I love the song, the video shows AI at its worst extreme … The Stones today performing as 1970’s caricatures of themselves.

Give it a look … but know that you’ve been forewarned!  (kk)

(I'm not kidding ... it’s actually hard for me to watch!!!)  kk

From Tom Cuddy …

The Beach Boys (Mike Love and Al Jardine) discuss their “Pet Sounds” album (in honor of its 60th anniversary) at the Capitol Records Tower in Los Angeles …

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DYOEYVTkqhj/?igsh=MW1tZnVncHFlYmM5bw==

And that's not all!!!

(There's a BIG push going on right now for the 60th Anniversary of the release of "Pet Sounds"!!!)

The Beach Boys also present a special listening experience and fundraiser in collaboration with the San Diego Zoo, where the iconic “Pet Sounds” album cover was famously photographed in 1966.

It’s 60 YEARS OF PET SOUNDS:

Pet Sounds Full Album × San Diego Zoo Animals

Watch the video about this historic day in celebration of 60 years of “Pet Sounds,” and donate to the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, which works around the globe to save species from extinction and protect the wild places they call home.

The Premiere begins May 15th at 9am PT!

On the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart, Michael Jackson’s “Number Ones” has climbed to #6, making it the 11th album of his career to make The Top Ten.  (He’s got one in EVERY decade since the ‘70’s!)  Only Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and James Taylor can make this claim, each producing new Top 10 albums in the 1970’s, ’80’s, ’90’s, 2000’s, 2010’s and 2020’s.

Jackson’s other Top Ten Albums include “Ben” (#5 in 1972), “Off the Wall” (#3 in 1980), “Thriller,” which stayed at #1 for 37 weeks in 1983 – 84 … and is currently back in The Top Ten as well, “Bad,” # 1 for six weeks in 1987, “Dangerous,” (#1 for four weeks in 1991-92), “HIStory: Past, Present and Future Book 1,” #1 for two weeks in 1995, “Invincible,” #1 for one week in 2001,  the soundtrack to “Michael Jackson’s This Is It,” a posthumous #1 album for one week in 2009, “Michael,” which hit #3 in 2011, and “Xscape,” #2 in 2014 … plus now “Number Ones”, which just hit #6 in 2026.  Amazing.

But that’s not all …

17 years after his passing, Michael Jackson also has four songs in The Top 50 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Singles Chart!

Leading the pack is “Billie Jean,” which climbs to #17 from #38 last week, followed by “Human Nature,” which premiers at #29 this week in its re-entry to the chart (it originally peaked at #7), “Beat It,” a former #1 record debuts at #32 and “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” (another former #1 record) is back on the chart at #42.  (kk)

Here's one for fun ...

And it's not just Michael's hits that have seen a surge in sales ... ALL of the "Jackson Family" streams are up because of the new "Michael" biopic, Billboard Magazine has put together a list of The Top 100 Hits charted by The Jackson Family ... meaning The Jackson Five, The Jackson and each individual member who charted with solo hits.

It's a pretty impressive list to say the least ... and you may be surprised by what came in at #1 ... AHEAD of "Billie Jean!"

You can check it out here:

And, speaking of Paul McCartney ...

It is rumored that he'll be performing at the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix this October.  If true, this will be McCartney's first performance EVER in Singapore.

Reminder #1:  The brand new Paul McCartney and Wings Exhibit will open this weekend at The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.  (No, we weren’t able to put together a group trip … I think I’m just going to permanently table this idea as it has yet to work out despite numerous attempts to promote such a gathering.)

But former Wings members Laurence Juber and Steve Holley WILL be on hand to join in the celebration opening weekend.  (They’ve got lots of things planned in the way of a performance and giveaways … more details on the Rock Hall website …

https://rockhall.com/event/paul-mccartney-wings-exhibit-opening-party/?j=104492&sfmc_sub=10261468&l=1407_HTML&u=1924483&mid=546009688&jb=11024&utm_source=sfmc&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Wings+Gen+Sub+Email+5.12.26&utm_term=PAUL+MCCARTNEY+AND+WINGS+EXHIBIT+OPENING+PARTY+LANDING+PAGE+2&utm_id=104492&sfmc_id=10261468 )

Tom Cuddy tells us that McCartney wisely turned down a Netflix roast ... he sure doesn't need that!!!

REMINDER #2:  Macca will be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this week, promoting his new "The Boys Of Dungeon Lane" release, due out May 29th.  (kk)

Bonnie Tyler’s family is NOT happy about all the rumors and speculation that has being going around regarding her health after major intestinal surgery.

They issued a statement on Tuesday that reads:

"As of this morning Bonnie remains seriously ill but stable in hospital in Faro; however her doctors are still positive that she will make a full recovery.  Bonnie's family are very disappointed at the many lurid and untrue rumours now circulating in the media and would like to make it clear that Liberto Mealha does not represent them in any way whatsoever and is not in contact with them regarding Bonnie.  When there is any further news of Bonnie's condition, then we will issue another statement but ask that the media cease to speculate or publish wild rumours, which simply serve to upset her family, friends, and many fans, and ask again for privacy and decency at this difficult time."

Bonnie still has concerts scheduled for later this year and, as of right now, NONE of these have been cancelled other than her appearance at The SummerLUST Music Festival scheduled for May 30th.  Doctors are optimistic that Bonnie will make a full recovery and be able to honor her other concert appearances.  (kk)

Producer Jack Douglas has died.

Douglas was hand-picked by Yoko Ono (with a little encouragement from John Lennon) to produce what ultimately became both the “Double Fantasy” and the “Milk And Honey” albums.  (He had previously worked with Lennon in another capacity on his “Imagine” album nine years earlier.)

John and Yoko were in the studio working on Yoko's new single "Walking On Thin Ice" with Douglas earlier the night that John was shot and killed.  Jack said the scars from that evening never truly healed.

In addition to his work with The Lennons, Douglas had previously produced four albums for Aerosmith and some key albums by Cheap Trick.  Over the years, he also worked with Alice Cooper, Blue Oyster Cult, The Who, Supertramp, The James Gang and The New York Dolls in various capacities.

He was 80 years old.  No cause or place of death had been announced at the time of this posting ... but I believe it was due to complications from lymphoma.  (kk)

Clarence and Claudine …

The grim reaper is sure staying busy this year.

David Lewis

Pink Floyd is being honored with their own official commemorative coin, celebrating the band’s musical legacy.  The coin is available now through The Royal Mint and features the iconic prism artwork from their 1973 landmark album “The Dark Side Of The Moon” on one side and “His Majesty, The King”’s portrait on the other.

This is the latest in a series of coins recognizing British music legends.  Previous honorees include Paul McCartney, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie and George Michael.  The Royal Mint says that these collectable coins (actual currency) now have nearly half a million coins distributed to collectors and fans across 108 countries.  (kk)

Hey Kent!

Knowing how popular your Bobby Darin series is, I thought your readers might like to know about some specials coming up to commemorate what would have been the entertainer's 90th birthday May 14th.

First, the Bobby Darin Fan Club You Tube page is promoting a never-before heard Darin concert from 1973 -- just months before his passing. Can't wait for that.
And then there's my own birthday tribute with songs Darin wrote -- but recorded by other artists. You'll hear Tony Orlando, Jackie DeShannon, Gene Vincent, and even The Osmond Brothers! But the real treat features clips from one of the most fascinating interviews I've ever heard. Bobby gets grilled by some tough newspaper columnists in 1965 and the exchange gets heated at times. It provides a stunningly revealing look inside my bio-dad's heart and mind. The program is available at www.mixcloud.com/LAFOS. While you're there, check out some of my other shows spotlighting songs found on your weekly SuperCharts!
All the best,
Sam Tallerico
Sounds great, Sammy!
(And sure, I'll plug MY Darin page here as well ...

Did any of you guys see this???

After fifty years, perhaps a clue that helps to explain the sinking of The Edmund Fitzgerald, forever immortalized in song by the late, great Gordon Lightfoot ...

Kent,

In today's FH you mentioned and talked about television schedules back in the day not only in color but black and white. That reminded me of a record that I've not heard in years and had to get it out to play. It made our local survey. It was simply called TELEVISION by singer Ron Martin on the Ronn label. FYI the flip was THE PAST.  Basically, this guy fixes his television but he fixes it wrong. It goes from being a color set to becoming black and white. It also mentions several television programs on at the time in the lyrics.

Larry

I’m not familiar with that one … and it doesn’t look like it charted nationally … but I did find it on YouTube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuNTwgZB5yU&list=RDJuNTwgZB5yU&start_radio=1

You know there are a lot of songs about radio … but I can’t think of a whole lot about TV.  (Of course if they’re as bad as THIS one, maybe it’s just as well!)  kk
