The Saturday Survey ... and 60 YEARS AGO TODAY (May 16th, 1966)

The Mamas and the Papas hold on to the #1 spot for the third week in a row with "Monday Monday."

Bob Dylan moves into the #2 spot with "Rainy Day Women #12 and 35," tying his peak last year on The Super Charts with "Like A Rolling Stone."

Percy Sledge and The Mindbenders continue their climb thru The Top Ten ... "When A Man Loves A Woman" now sits at #4 (up from #7) and "A Groovy Kind Of Love" slides into the #5 spot, up from #12.

"Message To Michael," "Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart," "It's A Man's Man's Man's World," "I Am A Rock," "Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind" and "Paint It Black" continue to be the records to watch in The Top 20.

You'll find continued big movement for "Green Grass" (#48 to #24), "Hold On! I'm Comin'" (#42 to #27), "Barefootin'" (#40 to #28) and "Cool Jerk" (#45 to #32)

Meanwhile, The Chiffons make a 25 point leap with "Sweet Talkin' Guy" while Eddy Arnold's version of the Roger Miller tune "The Last Word In Lonesome Is Me" climbs 26 spots from #82 to #56 ... and B.J. Thomas' latest, "Mama," is up 28 places from #87 to #59.  (Immediately behind it is his current hit, "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," slipping down the charts to #60 in its 13th week on the chart.

The top debut belongs to The Four Seasons with "Opus 17" (probably better known as "Don't You Worry 'Bout Me") ... it bows at #65 this week, just ahead of the latest tracks by The Animals ("Don't Bring Me Down," new at #68), and "Red Rubber Ball" by The Cyrkle, which premiers at #69.
