The Saturday Survey

It is Johnny Rivers who takes over the top spot this week with his first #1 Record, "Poor Side Of Town."  But there's some other very big action within The Top Ten as well ...

"Good Vibrations" by The Beach Boys climbs from #10 to #3 while "You Keep Me Hangin' On" and "Winchester Cathedral" make moves of 22 and 17 places as well, really shaking things up at the top of the charts.  All three of these record would appear to be #1 material in the weeks to come.  Meanwhile, Bobby Darin, The Lovin' Spoonful and Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels all maintain bullets this week, marking SEVEN of this week's Top Ten Hits records to watch!

The Hollies make a 15 point leap with their latest, "Stop Stop Stop," while Martha and the Vandellas, Simon and Garfunkel and The Miracles all make significant moves outside The Top 40.

This week's top debut belongs to Donovan with "Mellow Yellow."  It's the follow-up to his chart-topper "Sunshine Superman."

60 YEARS AGO TODAY  (11-7-66):

11/7/66 - John Lennon and Yoko Ono meet for the first time when Lennon stopped by Ono's solo exhibit at the Indica Gallery in London after hearing about "this Japanese avant-garde artist coming from America.”

John has told the story many times that one of the exhibits required climbing a ladder ... and then at the top of the ladder there was a small magnifying glass ... and when you looked thru the magnifying glass up to the ceiling, you saw the word "YES" ...

And John just felt such a positive vibe when he saw that that they immediately clicked.  (He said that had it said "NO" or "PISS OFF," that would have drawn him away instead ... but somehow there was an immediate connection ... and John (and The Beatles) were never the same again.  (kk)
