60 YEARS AGO TODAY:
9/30/65 – Elvis Presley meets Tom Jones for the first time on the set of his movie “Paradise, Hawaiian Style.” The two will remain friends (and mutual admirers of each other) until Elvis’ death in 1977.
Also on 9/30, Don Drysdale of The Los Angeles Dodgers wins his 13th straight game. (Seven of those were shutouts!)
Also on 9/30, Donovan makes his US television debut on “Shindig!” Other artists appearing on the program that night were Lesley Gore, The Hollies, The Turtles, The Searchers and the Dave Clark Five.
