Hi Kent,
I’m very much enjoying all the attention to the “1971” lists that you are publishing on your blogspot.
For the past six years I’ve been putting together video compilations of my own “lists,” starting with my Top 65 of 1965 and, since I turned 71 last month, now my Top 71 of 1971. Since I’m living in The Netherlands (Europe) but also lived in the US early 80’s for some 1.5 year, my list is a mix of tracks that you will know and tracks that you probably have never heard before. But, L.A. Goodbye ends up much higher in my list than in the WLS list 😉
I’m attaching the list of my Top 71 of 1971 for you to see which tracks you are familiar with and how many you are not familiar with.
Kind regards
Ben Meijering
There are quite a few titles here that I’m not familiar with, for sure … but still some great tracks on this list. Thanks for sending, Ben! (kk)
The official Aerosmith poster for their two Hollywood Bowl gigs. The band is promising “more surprises” to come … this is starting to sound like one of those all-day shows they used to hold in the ‘70’s!!! (kk)
The first “surprise guest” will be Guns n’ Roses … more to follow! (kk)
Here’s another one of those “The Monkees were the first boy band” articles … this one sent in by Tom Cuddy …
https://www.salon.com/2026/09/25/the-monkees-was-our-first-boy-band/
Tom also sent us this article on Sheryl Crow … and the current state of the music business …
Sheryl Crow says she’s 'losing a ton of money' with her latest album as she reflects on fame, cancer and ageing out of radio
(actually, she said a “shit-ton of money” … but this is a family show) …
This, too, from Tom Cuddy …

I talked to Joey just about a year ago ... we discussed running some in-depth features spotlighting some of the chapters of his book ... Joey seemed to like the idea but was heading out for a short tour and was supposed to get back to me once he got back home. He was going to send me a copy of the book so we could pick out which stories we wanted to follow-up on ... but it never happened. (It's supposed to be a REALLY good book ... in a Tommy James sort of way.)
I met Joey's son Ronnie when John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band performed at The Arcada Theatre last year. (Ronnie is an AMAZING sax player!)
I'll have to follow up with them again next month when John & Company return to Chicago for a gig at The Des Plaines Theatre on November 14th, backing up John Waite ... get your tickets here:
Timmy sent us this photo of Shotgun Kelly being inducted into The Radio Hall Of Fame …
Actually, we love ol' Shotgun Tom ... so congratulations again on this milestone achievement ... along with another nod to one of our radio favorites, Fred Winston! (kk)
Speaking of which, another "Final Reminder" to tune in to WLS Unwound this evening from 7-9 pm Central Time to catch some lively conversation between Fred, newsman Lyle Dean, host Scott Childers and WLS Jock Jeff Davis ... WLSAM.com (kk)
