Pretenders lead vocalist Chrissie Hynde is releasing a duets album for her fourth solo outing. The album features 13 duets, each reimagined with minimal, emotionally framed arrangements — its theme: “great melodies.”
Here’s the full track listing
“Me & Mrs Jones” (featuring k.d. lang) – originally done
by Billy Paul.
“Can’t Help Falling In Love” (featuring Mark Lanegan) - originally recorded by
Elvis Presley but Chrissie also previously recorded this tune with UB40.
“Sway” (featuring Lucinda Williams), the old Dean Martin / Bobby Rydell hit
“Dolphins” (featuring Dave Gahan) - originally done by Fred Neil
“First Of The Gang To Die” (featuring Cat Power) - originally by Morrissey
“Always On My Mind” (featuring Rufus Wainwright) – first recorded by Elvis
Presley and then later popularized by Willie Nelson – this is the lead off
single
“Every Little Bit Hurts” (featuring Carleen Anderson) - originally Brenda
Holloway
“I’m Not In Love” (featuring Brandon Flowers) - originally done by 10cc
“It’s Only Love” (featuring Julian Lennon) – this one should be interesting - originally
by The Beatles … and a song Julian’s dad John Lennon always considered to be a
real throw-away track
“Try To Sleep” (featuring Debbie Harry), originally done by The Pretenders
“County Line” (featuring Alan Sparhawk) - originally by Low
“Love Letters” (featuring Shirley Manson) originally done by Ketty Lester … but
also a big recording for Elvis Presley (that makes THREE Elvis tracks on this
LP!)
“(You’re My) Soul And Inspiration” (featuring Dan Auerbach) originally by The
Righteous Brothers
There are certain images that just stay with us …
Over the years we have said goodbye to the couple that graced the cover of the “Woodstock” soundtrack 3-record set … we’ve covered the charges of Spencer Elden, the baby pictured on the cover of Nirvana’s “Nevermind” album. And now comes word that the man set on fire on the cover of Pink Floyd’s 1975 album “Wish You Were Here” has passed away at the age of 88.
While nobody really knew or cared for the past fifty years, his name was Ronnie Rondell, who donned a fireproof suit for the album cover shoot. In all, fifteen photos were taken, trying to get the “perfect shot.” In the final photo, a gust of wind blew fire into Rondell’s face, burning him, at which point he declared he was done for the day.
He passed away on August 10th at a senior living facility located in Missouri at the age of 88. (Fire was NOT the cause of death … although not disclosed, it sounds like it was simply old age.)
Rondell worked as a stuntman and appeared in the films “How the West Was Won,” “Blazing Saddles,” “Diamonds Are Forever,” Lethal Weapon and “The Matrix Reloaded.” (kk)

Freddie Cannon is proof-positive that the real pros of the business can always make a comeback: after a hiatus from the charts he presently skyrocketed up the hitsville path with his Warner Bros, recording of “Action.” Freddie, who comes from Revere, Mass., set his sights on a musical career as a toddler. At seven, his ambition was to have a combo like his truck driver father, who still plays lead trumpet in a group called Freddie Carman and His Orchestra. Although Freddie’s’ dad openly frowned on a musical career, he was delighted with the natural flair for rhythm that their son showed. By the time he was 15 and a student at Lynn (Mass.) Vocational High School, young Freddie had realized his first ambition; he’d teamed up with a few buddies to form a little group. After several years of playing hops and local club dates Freddie was brought to the attention of tune- smiths Bob Crewe and Frank Slay who dug the chanter so much that they produced his first master. The result of their collaboration was “Tallahassee Lassie” which quickly became a national best-seller. The rest is history.
“Action” shows as #31 on this week’s Super Chart, up 17 places from the week before. (kk)
That was a terrific article on the Tokens, including an interview with Jay Siegel. In reading this, I realized there was an entire part of the Tokens' history that I was unaware of. This is a must-read. Great work, Kent.
